What a success! The second Poole SC Masters Open Meet, incorporating Dorset County Masters Championships, took place on Saturday 15 June at 1610 Dorchester Sports Centre and concluded with two new British Swimming Masters records and 26 Dorset Masters CBTs being achieved. With 135 swimmers (one a visiting swimmer from New Zealand) from 46 different clubs taking part across 90 heats and ‘hot heats’ which went down a storm, it was an action packed day and Dorset was well represented with almost half the swimmers coming from Dorset clubs.

Masters is also for everyone – the age of competitors ranged in age from 21 to 80 years – and inclusivity was evident. Participants included swimmers competing in their first event for decades alongside experienced swimmers who have medalled at National level and higher. There was also huge excitement poolside when Bracknell & Wokingham SC Master Kirsty Johnson set two new British Masters records in the 50m Backstroke and 100m Backstroke in the 40-44 years age category – the atmosphere was electric. The local ladies also dominated the CBTs table with 21 of the 26 new times being achieved by them.

Masters events usually struggle with on-the-day assistance, so a huge thanks must go to all the officials and volunteers who helped to make the event possible. PSC Masters Meet, together with Dorset County Masters Championships, will be back in 2025 with a provisional date of Sat 14 June 2025.
